Hi Nico.

Hope your journey to SA is a good one.

How is your photoshop expertise?

We keep getting an announcement on entering Photoshop that 'GPU enhancements' have been disabled and that we should go to their website to reactivate or something. We are still able to use it but wondering if this may cause us problems at some later point if we continue ignoring it as we have.

What are the 'GPU' thingys they won't let us have and have you ever come across this and I can't find any ...

Hi Nic.

Thanks again for the use of your studio. The photos are fab.

I am off for the summer to Gods country (Ireland - where else?) and hope to hone my manual photography skills. My aim now is to develop and fine tune my photographs and start stockpiling for stock.

Am I running before I can walk?

What top 5 pearls of wisdom can you bestow on me when snapping with the hope that it will be technically suitable for stock?

Also a studio workshop would be brill. Count me in.

Hi Nico,
Thank you very much for your time and guidance during our recent visit to your studio. It was a learning experience indeed. Please let me know if you have any plans to organize workshops on topics covering depth of field, portrait and group photography. The intention is to move from basic to advanced.

Thanks and Regards

Bought Canon D50 with 18-200mm lense plus 50mm lense.
Love it to bits. Shamed to say as we only bought it 3 days before we left we stayed on auto for the duration of the hols.
We have just bought Photoshop CS4 (CS3 no longer available in Q it seems) so this is our next learning curve.
A friend of mine is buying the Canon D1000. How does this rate against the (modern version) panasonic equivalent in your opinion?

Hi Nico,

Received my new lens, flash & filters the other day; Cannon 24-70mm f2.8L USM, Canon 580 EXII and Hoya filter pack. I went out shooting yesterday and quite frankly, I'm disappointed with the results.

Took many shots at the Al Kor harbour in manual mode with the new lens and UV filter; experimented with various f-stop settings and everything seems to be slightly overexposed. This became apparent after viewing the shots in PS Elements and making the various corrections whereafter ...

I'm currently shooting with a Nikon D3 - a wonderful piece of machinery. Lenses include a 50mm f/1.4 prime, 14-24mm f/2.8 wide angle, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-300 and 80-400mm zooms. With the full-frame sensor on the D3 I have no bonus distance on the lenses, but it is nice to have the full wide angle available at 14mm.

My studio consists of 2x 1600w and 2x 800w Alien Bees studio lights, with a giant softbox and a couple of umbrellas. I also have a background stand with various background patterns ...

We live in Doha and it is quite a boring place unless you do some interesting stuff (but then there are not that many interesting things to do, unless you can afford the local pass time - 'recreational shopping' )

Due to some nice friends we recently celebrated 'Canadian Thanksgiving', and stuffed ourselves to the hilt with really excellent cuisine. We even had some left-overs for the next day and it was like having the same party all over again!

The weather is also improving as ...
